KPT Design has been appointed to develop a new build scheme in the London borough of Ealing, which is comprised of 7 units spanning 4 floors above an existing garages’ structure.
The garages will remain in situ and a steel frame structure will bridge over and provide the skeleton of the building. The stability is provided by moment frames and cross bracing. The design requires close coordination with the architecture to ensure that the existing garages are not affected by the structure above. With the brickwork of the garages being extended up and the use of bronzed metal architectural detailing, together with balconies give the scheme a sculptural quality. The new dwellings will be highly sustainable and aim to promote biodiversity with the use of sedum roofs.
